Lot Essay

An l823 pattern for a similar pedestal-supported tazza features in the archive of the Ekaterinburg Lapidary Works in St. Petersburg (see V.B. Semynov, Malachite, l987 p.ll2 fig l3). Its tazza form relates to one executed in l847 in grey-violet porphyry and illustrated E.M. Effimova, Russian Stoneware in the Hermitage Museum, Leningrad, l96l fig. 75.
