The design for these finials may be found in Jacques-Franois Blondel's DE LA DISTRIBUTION DES MAISONS DE PLAISANCE, ET DE LA DECORATION DES EDIFICES EN GENERAL, published in 1738 for Monseigneur Turgot, Marquis de Sousmons, Conseiller d'Etat, where it is described as a Vase l'usage de la dcoration des btiments l'Italienne.
