Circa 1870
Surmounted by a wrought-iron overthrow with scroll terminals and a central pulley, the wellhead with a square platform with twist-rope border and acanthus-carved terminals, above a circular body, the front carved with a coat of arms, the back with a Tudor rose, the sides each with a baluster vase

Lot Essay

There is a notable collection of well-heads at Hever Castle, Kent, which was assembled circa 1900 by William Waldorf Astor.
A similar well head was sold by Christie's, the property of T. Crowther & Son, 12-14 October 1992, lot 1386.
