Lot Essay

This depiction of Cupid and Psyche combines Rodin's use of the melting nuances of contemporary Symbolism with his characteristic naturalism. His chief early influence was the successful sculptor Carrier-Belleuse for whom he worked as assistant from 1864 and intermittently until 1882.
