Lot Essay

Susse Freres is the oldest sculpture foundry in Western Europe and responsible for casting the works of many of the most important French sculptors in bronze in the 19th century, including Dalou, Carpeaux, and the animaliers Mne and Cain.

Euterpe is one of the Muses, Goddesses of creative inspiration in poetry, song and other arts. Companions of Apollo, they originally were nymphs who presided over springs that had the power to give inspiration. Euterpe is the Muse of Music and Lyric Poetry.
