A Victorian gilt-brass strut timepiece with calendar

The case of typical rectangular outline entirely engraved with scrolling foliage and flowerheads on a hatched ground, hinged loop handle to the top and swivel stand in the base, the solid back with spring-loaded catches for a reclining strut and for the escapement cover, the case stamped THOs COLE behind the back cover, the similarly engraved silvered dial with Roman chapter ring and fine blued steel hands, manual calendar below showing the days of the week and date, retail signature above the chapter ring signed Hunt & Roskell London, the movement of typical going barrel form with vertically positioned platform lever escapement with plain steel three-arm balance, the backplate signed by the retailer Hunt & Roskell London.
