A Dutch walnut automaton longcase clock
F. Pastuer, Amsterdam; third quarter 18th century
The case on bomb plinth with line inlay and floral marquetry to the front panel and arched trunk door with central large rocaille-cast lenticle, marquetry pillasters with later capitals to the caddy-top hood with shell carving, the dial signed FS. Pasteur Amsterdam on the silvered Roman and Arabic arcaded dial with pierced black painted hands, the matted centre with ringed winding holes, shell-engraved cartouche to the date aperture above VI, subsidiary silvered seconds ring flanked by apertures for the date and day with their corresponding number of days and deities, foliate spandrels, the arch with ship's of the line rocking back and forth against a painted backdrop of a harbour with penny moonphase aperture to the right side, the movement with four pillars, anchor escapement and Dutch strike on two bells; possibly associated
