Lot Essay

A pair of George III giltwood girandoles of similar style, was sold by Jeremy Cotton, Esq., Tythrop Park, in the Rooms, 27 April 1995, lot 14. The urn finial and tapering form with husk-trail boss features on a drawing by John Linnel of 1774, illustrated in 'The Drawings of John Linnel', Furniture History, 1969, p. 100 and fig. 95.
