A CARVED POLYCHROME LACQUER CHEST
17th/18th century
The rectangular case supported on a low base and surmounted by a hinged cover concealing a removable tray with lattice sides, the front of the chest fitted with two doors opening to eight drawers of varying sizes and formats, all surfaces carved through the red lacquer to the brown and beige layers below with elaborate lotus scrolls with dense foliage enveloping bats and qing chimes, within key-pattern borders, bronze carrying handles and fittings, chips and bruises restored
17 in. (45.5 cm.) high, 16 in. (41 cm.) wide, 13 in. (33 cm.) deep
