Inscribed iwa take koi sakana [rock, bamboo, carp, fish], signed Ichi... sai Kaneyasu Masatoshi zo [Made by Ichi... sai Kaneyasu Masatoshi] and sealed on the base ... sei Meiji Period (late 19th Century)
Decorated in gold, silver and bronze on a shakudo and copper ground with two carp swimming in a rocky stream, while another leaps up a cascade, the shoulder with various stylised animal and floral roundels, the foliate raised foot with a continuous branch of peony blossom and foliage, slight old wear

Kaneyasu Masatoshi (or Masanaga, 1845-1908 or later) trained as a maker of sword-fittings before becoming independent.
