An Imari dish
Edo Period (Late 17th/early 18th Century)
Decorated in iron-red enamel and gilt on underglaze blue, the centre with a lady and her attendant strolling on a bridge, a mountainous riverscape beyond, the latter holding a parasol to protect them from sudden rain, within a floral cell pattern border, the reverse with sprays of plum and pomegranate branches
12in. (31.8cm.) diam.
