Portrait of Mahmud Sevket Pasha (1856-1913), seated three-quarter length

Commanding the Third Army with Mustafa Kemal, and the hero of the events of 1909 leading up to the overthrow of Sultan Abdul Hamid II, Mahmud Sevket Pasha was appointed Grand Vizir in 1913 but was assassinated in the same year. In keeping with his achievements in 1909, he is portrayed in the present work as a man of action, and not in dress uniform.
