Octagonal flattened box, the cover, four cut corners and base enamelled in black with vertical gold borders of taille d'pargne vine leaves twisted with ribbons, the cover inset with a rectangular enamel panel finely painted with the Muse Erato holding a lyre and a palm branch, a putto aside, within a narrow blue enamel band, the four side panels painted with black enamel, all panels framed with opaque white enamel bands
