A LOUIS XVI STYLE JEWELLED AND ENAMELLED GOLD CARNET-DE-BAL SET WITH A MINIATURE
the miniature by Luc Sicardi (1743-1825), signed, circa 1780
Slightly tapering rectangular tui--tablettes with rounded top, of flattened shuttle-shaped section, both sides of cover and base with wavy guilloch panels enamelled with brown trees on a translucent sand-coloured ground, within borders of oval and rectangular flowerheads on a white enamel band, the top similary enamelled and chased, the base of polished gold, obverse and reverse of the cover applied with silver-mounted rose-cut diamond set inscription "Souvenir d'amiti", the obverse of the base inset with a rose-cut-diamond framed oval miniature of a young lady with roses in her high-piled powdered hair, by Sicardi, the reverse with glazed oval medallion containing a plaited blonde hair panel applied with pierced scrolling gold monogram MC, diamond-set pushpiece, the interior fitted with tablets and pencil
