The serpentine brocatello di Spagna marble top above two short and two long drawers each with banded and quarter veneered drawers and rocaille handles with conforming angle mounts, the apron centred by a rocaille, on slightly outsplayed sabot feet, inscribed 'FECITE JOHANNES LEFEVRER 1764', restorations

Lot Essay

Although there is no known bniste by the name of Johannes Lefvre, several commodes en tombeau, in the got Rgence were executed by Louis Michel Lefvre (Matre in 1749). Two closely related examples to the present commode are illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Franais du XVIIIe Sicle, Paris, 1989, pp. 497-498.
