Lot Essay

Duilio Barnab studied at the cole des Beaux-Arts in Bologne and regularly exhibited in Venice, Milan and Rome before holding his first one man exhibition in Paris in 1956. Taking his inspiration from artists such as Morandi and De Chirico he established a style whereby, as in the present work, figures were simplified to the extreme in a geometric and balanced way and accentuated with light and shade. He enjoyed success in Switzerland, London and America and is represented in the collection of the Muse National d'Art Moderne in Paris.
