The shaped rectangular tripartite cleated top centred by an adjustable flap with mirror to the reverse, flanked by two hinged flaps, above a knee-hole with two drawers to each side, the top right drawer with a fitted interior lacking accessories, above cabriole legs terminating in upswept later sabots, the top left drawer stamped 'J.F.LELEU'

Lot Essay

Jean Franois Leleu, matre in 1764.

A coiffeuse of similar shape but with a further central drawer and veneered in tulipwood by the same bniste was sold in the Galerie Charpentier, Paris, in 1949 and was subsequently sold at Sotheby's, Monaco, 5 February 1978, lot 56. That coiffeuse is illustrated in J. Nicolay, L'Art et la Manire des Matres Ebnistes Franais, Paris, 1956, p. 298, fig. P.
