Jean-Baptiste Boulard, matre in 1755.

Established in the rue de Clry, the talented menusier Boulard (circa 1725 - 1789), is particularly known as supplier to the Garde-meuble de la Couronne, for which he predominantly worked from 1777. He is recorded supplying seat furniture to Compigne, Versailles, Fontainebleau, Saint-Cloud, and a suite of eight large fauteuils 'en causeuse', carved by Jean-Baptiste Rode, to the Comte d'Artois at the Pavillon de Bagatelle (See also lot 30 of this sale for a recently rediscovered fauteuil supplied to Bagatelle by Georges Jacob, for the sole use by Louis XVI).

A related suite of seat-furniture comprising six medallion-backed fauteuils and a sofa, formerly from the Ricardo Espirito Santo collection, was sold anonymously at Sotheby's Monaco, 3 July 1993, lot 44 (FF 999.000).
