Each depicting a vase of flowers on a stone ledge, one signed to the lower left 'G.F. Ziesel f 1784', the other 'G.Z.', in a concave-moulded fluted frame, one inscribed to the reverse of the frame 'ZIEZEL 1784', the reverse of the frame of the other with depository label 'LE GARDE MEUBLE PUBLIC 17 Rue Monsigny BEDEL & Cie' and stamped '76448'

Lot Essay

Georg Frederik Ziesel (1766-1809) was born in Hoogstraeten and established himself as a painter in Anvers in the 1770s. He lived several years in Paris. A similar painting-on-glass was sold anonymously at Sotheby's London, 10 December 1993, lot 237, while another signed by Ziesel was sold anonymously at Sotheby's Monaco, 22 June 1985, lot 48.
