Lot Essay

A related medallion of Louis XVI signed F. P. Lebrun in the Wallace Collection (S392) is illustrated in P. Verlet, Les Bronzes Dors Franais du XVIIIe sicle, Paris, 1987, p. 134, fig. 171. The signature F. P. Lebrun may stand for fait par Lebrun, in which case the sculptor is probably Andr-Jean Lebrun (1737-1811) (J. G. Mann, Wallace Collection Catalogues: Sculpture, London, 1931, S392, p. 142 and 1981 supplement).
