Lot Essay

Jack Smith (B. 1928) the painter, studied at St Martin's and The Royal College of Art. His first one-man show took place at Helen Lessore's Beaux Arts Gallery in 1953. He became a member of London based Neo- Realist group which was loosely known as the Kitchen Sink Group. He has had retrospectives at the Whitechapel Art Gallery (1959) and the Serpentine Art Gallery (1978).
