Lot Essay

"A flute player began one day to play only a single and unique continuous sound. After he had repeated this action for more than twenty years, his wife advised him to observe other flute players. They emitted several harmonious, melodious sounds, etc., which were ultimately perhaps more interesting and more varied. To this, the 'monotone' flute player responded that it was not his fault if 'he' had found the note that the others were still in the act of 'seeking'! (Yves Klein as quoted in exh. cat., op. cit. p. 81)
