Lot Essay

The attribution was kindly confirmed on the basis of a photograph by Patrizia Cavazzini, who suggested that the drawing was executed around 1610. She compares it to a group of sheets in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (P. Ward-Jackson, Italian Drawings, 17th-18th Century, London, 1980, no. 811) and to the Three women playing musical instruments in the British Museum, London, N. Turner, Roman Baroque Drawings, c.1620 to c.1700, London, 1999, no. 302.
