Philippe de Chennevires connected the verso of the drawing to Bourdon's Lamentation painted for the Church of Saint Benoit in Paris and now in the Louvre, P. Rosenberg, N. Reynaud and I. Compin, Ecole franaise XVIIe et XVIII sicles, Paris, 1974, I, no. 72. The picture reverses the darwing. Another connected drawing is in the Louvre, J. Guiffrey and P. Marcel, Inventaire gnral des Dessins du Muse du Louvre et du Muse du Louvre et du Muse de Versailles, Paris, 1908, II, no. 1627. The recto is probably a study for one of the numerous engravings of The Rest on the Flight.
