Lot Essay

William Bullock of Soho took out patents for various mechanisms between 1801 and 1813. His stamp appears on several early 19th Century breakfast-tables including one sold anonymously, in these Rooms, 14 November 1996, lot 69 (see C. Gilbert, Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture 1700-1840, Leeds, 1996, pp. 20 and 123, fig. 162).
