POSSIBLY BY WRIGHT AND ELWICK

This card-table has cusped quatrefoil panels at the top of the legs, a common stylistic trait that appears on some of the furniture attributed to the Yorkshire cabinet-makers, Wright and Elwick. Richard Wright and Edward Elwick were in partnership between 1747 and 1771, and their work is discussed in 'The Wentworth Cabinet-Maker: Wright and Elwick', Christie's Wentworth sale catalogue, 8 July 1998, pp. 110-112. The same panel appears on the doors of a commode (lot 69 in the Wentworth sale), the cresting of the Marchioness of Rockingham's Cabinet (lot 35 - the Wentworth sale) and the legs of a pembroke table (lot 62 - the Wentworth sale).
