The rounded rectangular green leather-lined top above two mahogany- lined frieze drawers to each side, on rectangular end-supports joined by a shaped stretcher with central foliate wreath flanked by anthemions, on rectangular platforms headed by foliage scrolls, with scrolled paw feet and part sunk castors, one drawer locked

Lot Essay

George Smith, upholsterer to the Prince of Wales, later George IV, in his Collection of Designs for Household Furniture and Interior Decoration, London, 1808, pl. 84, illustrates a 'Sofa Table' with panelled trestle-ends, scrolling voluted brackets, and large claw feet such as are displayed on the present writing-table.
