Lot Essay

The marble-topped sideboard-table is conceived in the French picturesque manner of the 1740s with its flower-festooned acanthus scrolls and asymetrical central cartouche. With its serpentined truss legs terminating in foliated and hollow-sided plinths, it relates in particular to patterns published in Matthias Lock, Six Tables, 1746, (pls. 3 and 5).
