Chteau d'Yquem--Vintage 1937
Sauternes, 1er grand cru class. Chteau-bottled
Good label. Level very top-shoulder
Tasting note: Tasted on many occasions, at least nine times during the 1980s. Fairly consistent, the slight variations doubtless the result of less good cellaring. Normally, and at best, a deepish glowing amber gold with touch of orange; perfect bouquet; honeyed, fragrant, orange blossom, gushing forth an endless succession of scents from seemingly immeasurable depths. On the palate sweet, full-bodied, rich, concentrated, ambrosial barley-sugar, wonderful length, acidity, aftertaste. Most recently a magnum: an explosive bouquet and almost exaggerated flavour. ***** M.B.
