This kit, with its Roman acanthus enrichment, is chequered black and white in the manner of a German kit acquired in 1905 by the Victoria and Albert Museum (see A. Baines, Catalogue of Musical Instruments in the Victoria and Albert Museum, pt. 11, London, 1998, no. 4/5), also likely to have come from the Humell workshop.

Matthias Hummel (c. 1634-c. 1670) worked in Augsburg as a lute maker and belonged to the Guild of Joiners there.
