Engraved 'I. W. Haas nurnberg' surmounted by the emblem of a leaping hare with the maker's initials within an oval on the garland and decorated with a huntsman on horseback, a hound and a wolf in high relief against stylised trees and a geometric ground with a lion's head mask with a ring, the mouthpiece also engraved with geometric designs

The Haas family were the most illustrious and prolific of the Nuremberg brass instrument making families. The family included four masters over four generations all using the same mark, a leaping hare and the initials I W H. The horn bears the Nuremberg town mark of an 'N'.
