A CHILD'S GOLD-MOUNTED HUNTING HANGER
Austrian or German, dated 1751
With narrow curved single-edged blade back-edged towards the blunt point, struck on one face with a mark and engraved 'Framea ss'mi Archi ducis Caroli/Poson in Diceta Anni 1751. gesta.' ['Sword carried by the most serene Archduke Charles at Poson (the Hungarian name for Bratislava Preburg) at the imperial Diet in the year 1751'], the hilt with bloodstone handle carved in relief with rococo scrolls and shells, and with cast and chased mounts comprising short straight quillons with foliated tips made in one with the grip ferrule, decorated with leaves and scrolls, and cap pommel formed as a monster's head
