A GERMAN HAND-PAVISE
Late 15th/early 16th Century
Oblong with rounded corners and with a broad central gutter, of wood lined with hide, the front covered with gesso painted with a black eagle displayed charged on the breast with a white and black lozengy shield, all against an ochre ground covered with lighter dots and with a red border at the top, the interior with original iron suspension staples and T-shaped wood and leather hand grip (perhaps later) held by modern screws
