Lot Essay

Named after a tondo in the Villa Borghese, Rome, the painter was a follower of Domenico Ghirlandaio. An attribution to Jacopo del Tedesco, a pupil of Ghirlandaio mentioned by Vasari, was proposed by Francovich who first isolated the hand in 1927. Fahy lists some two dozen works by the artist.
