A 30-Bore Central Italian Snaphaunce Belt Pistol
Third quarter of the 18th Century
With lightly engraved two-stage barrel and tang, flat lock signed on the inner side with maker's initials 'P.A', and engraved with flowers, foliage and monster-heads, the flat cock retained from the inside by a bolt, the head chiselled in relief with a putto-mask, moulded figured walnut full stock (fore-end an old replacement) carved in relief with foliage and female profile busts, engraved iron mounts including pierced side-plate and trigger-guard finial engraved with foliage, monster-heads, and female profile busts, pierced escutcheon en suite, spurred pommel with chiselled putto-mask cap, and horn-tipped ramrod with worm (belt hook removed)
