Chteau Mouton-Rothschild--Vintage 1929
Pauillac, 1er cru class. Chteau-bottled
Very dirty label slightly torn. Level top-shoulder
Tasting Note: like a great diva, world renowned but not unsullied. Never tasted in its prime. First noted in 1968, 18 times since: overripe decadent but an increasing challenge to nose and palate. At his great Mouton tasting in 1968 Lloyd Flatt served a bottle, a magnum and a jeroboam. At best: intensely deep yet luminous, with a fine gradation of colour; ripe, fleshy, yet with inimitably Mouton Cabernet Sauvignon fragrance, but much else: it evolved, revolved, in the glass. Distinctly sweet, concentrated, spicy, lovely fruit, persistence of flavour. Opulent. Sublime.
At best ****** ! M.B.(GVWBII)
