1958 JAGUAR XK150 FIXED HEAD COUPE

There had been nothing quite like William Lyons' sensational XK120 two seater roadster and it was given the reception due to a star in the making when it made its debut at the London Motor Show in late 1948. Its stunning combination of flowing bodylines, modern chassis, racing-style straight-six engine, and luxuriously equipped cockpit, all at a rock-bottom price, struck gold with enthusiasts across the world. Classic sports-racers and luxury saloons flowed from the Coventry factory and the XK range became a dynasty of thoroughbreds. The 190bhp XK140 of 1951 was given rack and pinion steering and other improvements. It gave way to the 210bhp XK150 in 1957. Styling changes were significant; there was a more solid look, with a higher line to the wings, a modern style wraparound windscreen and a higher scuttle line, while the radiator grille was a fine-barred variant of that on the Mk 1 saloon. Even more luxurious than its older sisters', the XK150's airy cabin was given four more inches of width and provided great comfort for two, with space for children on two padded cushions behind. The XK150 was still very potent; on the 3.4 version there was a reduced rear axle ratio, which gave a slightly lower maximum but improved acceleration.
This handsome 3.4 litre fixed head coupe has formed part of a glittering private collection. The car is well presented with attractive paintwork and straight panelwork. The interior has been retrimmed with dark blue leather seats and blue carpeting. Paperwork on file attests to Sfr 37,400 having been spent on the car by the current vendor in 1992 for mechanical refurbishment. A handsome example of its type, it has Swiss registration papers.
