In Picasso's oeuvre, the abstract women's heads most likely originated in his pivotal work, "Les Demoiselles d'Avignon". Like many artists, he always explored new mediums, hence he transferred his ideas to the small and precious. He can be seen in a picture with Jacqueline adjusting a ceramic necklace. The moulding of the pendant present in this collection is reminiscent of his painterly brushstrokes.
Csar brought the Surrealist movement's "disinterested play of thoughts" to the jewellery sphere with his breast pendant, isolated from the body. He also produced miniature versions of his "Compression" sculptures in gold, set with precious stones.
