Minimalism, with its geometric fields and bold colours, has found its champions in the precious crafts. One of the most modern of jewellers, Bulgari, clearly came under the movement's spell. Their creations from the 1960s to the present day incorporate audacious colour combinations. In addition, they have never shirked from using semi-precious stones to arrive at desired colour juxtapositions. The coral, diamond, onyx and amethyst set in a Bulgari navette brooch in the collection (lot 28) is evocative of works by Frank Stella and Ellsworth Kelly: large colour fields, striking hues, pure geometry.
