A pearlware relief-moulded rectangular portrait plaque
probably the Portabello factory of Thomas Rathbone & Co., moulded and painted with a half-length portrait of George IV in military uniform, above a banner inscribed Welcome King George IV, painted with flowers, the reeded border sponged with stylised flowerheads, circa 1822 (some very minor flakes to glaze) -- 16.3cm. x 14.2cm.

Lot Essay

This plaque was made to commemorate the visit of George IV to Scotland in 1822, the first reigning sovereign to do so since 1688.
