An English porcelain rectangular double portrait plaque
painted in shades of puce with quarter-length portraits of Princess Alice and Prince Louis of Hesse, on a shaded grey ground, within oval panels gilt with shamrocks, between them a raised gilt crown and the monogram L A, the border enriched with raised gilding on a pale-ivory ground, circa 1862 (losses to jewelling and some rubbing to gilding) -- 28cm. x 21cm.
