Research carried out by Mr Richard Hunter, the authority on ships figureheads, suggests that the most likely vessel from which this figurehead was taken was the Wasp, originally built as a Merchantman in 1801 but acquired by the Royal Navy in 1822. Used as a survey ship, it is recorded that she was broken up in 1822.
