the cherub with left leg behind, hands holding and facing right, the wood (worn) now painted in 'gilt' with a blue back and holes for hull mounting -- 31in.

Lot Essay

H.M.S. Firebrand was one of approximately twenty vessels wrecked in October 1707 under the command of Rear-Admiral Sir Cloudesly Shovell. Over fifteen hundred men perished with their Commander, an incident that provoked the Longitude Act of 1714 (see lot XX)
