Lot Essay

The iron screw steamer William Coulman was built by McNab at Greenock in 1865. Registered at 406 tons gross (277 net), she measured 179 feet in length with a 32 foot beam, and was fitted with a 75hp. engine in addition to her auxiliary sailing rig. Owned by the Goole Steam Ship Company, she spent her career trading across the North Sea to Antwerp and Rotterdam during which she was slightly lengthened and re-engined in 1871.
