Provenance
John Macallan Swan (1847-1910) was born at Old Brentford. He studied at the Worcester School of Art, and then at the Lambeth School of Art. He was best known for his studies and rapid sketches of wild animals, in particular lions, leopards and tigers through which he reflects the true animalism of the subject.
