Harold Gimblett made a resounding impact on the game. He was the type of player who brought people out of the beer tent from his first innings at 20 (at the time he was completing a month trial for the club) when, going in at no. 8, he rescued the county with the fastest century of the season. He played three times for England before the war with an average of 32.35. On retirement he held the Somerset record for runs and centuries in a career.
