Lot Essay

Batista Guarini (1538-1612) published his play in 1590 but it was not produced until 1598.
There was a very similar fan in the Collection of Mrs. George B. Baldwin, sold by her daughter Mrs. August Uhlein Pabst, at Christie's South Kensington, 4 May 1978 lot 89
