Explaining that he is "taking the liberty to inform [him] that [their] Election is fixed for next Saturday 9th Inst." Discussing his position, he continues: "I flatter myself that your friend Mr Mathias may be inclined to give me one of his votes if it should be agreable to you. I have Room also to flatter myself that the Provost of Eaton may be prevailed upon to interest himself in my Favor [sic] on the same supposition; and His Assistance will be I believe of some Consequence. I have taken the Liberty of writing to Lord Middleton to request his Interest with Mr Manning. If you should find it in your Power to contribute to my success on this interesting occasion, I need not say that I shall feel it as a strong addition to the innumerable obligations I have already experienced. The struggle will I believe be great, but I have every reason to promise myself sincere."
