PRESENTATION COPY, the front free endpaper inscribed, 'To Nick, [?]fair exchange for all he has suffered at my hands, from Ian.' 'Nick' was Wing Commander H. D. Nicholson, Secretary of the Royal St. George's Golf Club, Sandwich ('St. Mark's' in Goldfinger), and Ian Fleming's occasional golfing partner. Their friendship resulted in Fleming accepting the invitation to be godfather to Nick's daughter, Sally, the vendor of the present copy.
