The case (re-decorated) with gilt chinoiserie decoration against a scarlet ground, with gilt metal caryatid mounts to all four angles and arched fish scale sound frets to the sides, raised on foliate cast scroll feet, the white enamel Roman dial with Arabic five minutes (hairline cracks), pierced gilt-metal hands with sweep seconds, the five pillar triple chain fusee movement with verge escapement chiming on seven bells via seven hammers, with hour strike on further bell, the backplate signed Rob.t Philp London within a foliate cartouche, with similarly engraved movement securing brackets and pendulum holdfast to the backplate
